Imperfect

subvert viewer expectations

Sam's sentiment On em-dashes parallels how I view commentary ragging on Studio Konkret's Fanapt "Keys" and Ponvory "Blackout" ads for assumed AI use. With the dismal state of AI detection in academia and beyond, what proof do detractors have and is it necessarily damning? Watch these ads for yourself and revel in their masterfully crafted anime aesthetic. Then, mute them and wonder if you'd even class them as pharma ads with or without the foreground elements.

I'd love a behind-the-scenes look into how they were made. Learning about their pipeline would give a glimpse into their applied creative process like what Sam outlines via AI-assisted tools including Grammarly, ProWritingAid, and otherwise. We can appreciate and empower creatives who use their tools well. How many of your workflows, professional or not, benefit immensely from AI?

I largely dodge both advertisements in general and the target demographic for these ads. That said, I think my immediate reaction upon seeing them being searching for the ads online says something profound about their visual fidelity. Jumping into this rabbit hole didn't require me to grok the product being advertised. However, making the connection added further intrigue to my search.

These ads teach lessons for subverting viewer expectations and encouraging follow-up engagement. Whether it's the art direction riling up discourse, the distinct Swedish accent yielding various takes in foreign markets, or the sheer difference from competitors in the same class or TV channel, I think Studio Konkret hit a home run with regard to increasing the surface area of their clients and themselves.

When will the next episode drop?
