relax your standards
Inspired by Ava's blogging in isolation and Nick's Fuck Digital Minimalism and Every Sanctimonious Blog Post That Comes With It.
Life is too extreme in both directions to afford disrespecting yourself. It's short yet long, scarce yet abundant, sad yet happy. Condemning vices can distract from your wants, impose lofty expectations, and create immense pressure. You can enjoy your exploration through discovery and distractions like you enjoy your exploitation through focus and flow. Work, play, and rest how you see fit.
Creative breaks are acceptable if not inevitable, but there's something magical to someone who sticks around for long. If you find them genuine and relatable, you can learn much about persistence and building community from their process. On the flipside, being surrounded by people you don't connect with can be a stronger form of loneliness than being alone. Who have you been sharing the parts of your life you want to share with?
Like how tools don't need soul to be used to conscientiously assist with creativity, you don't need permission to act. Your actions don't have to require anything but themselves. I can just write for whatever reason comes to mind whether it's my inner child, other people, or nothing at all.
