reframe bad advice

A reply to Robert's post, You're Not Me (post deleted).

With the chaos that advice can bring, words that may seem incredibly stupid to one person can be incredibly helpful for another.

Have you ever found exchanging advice like "If I were you" useful, either for yourself or someone else? If so, does that mean the asker had more personal issues than everyone else? If not, what kind of advice using this phrasing could you imagine as being helpful - or even solicited - for yourself or others?

Everyone has something valuable to share, even if you don't agree with their approach. Considering context, nuance, and your own self-awareness helps mitigate the risks of unsolicited advice and invites everyone to learn.

Someone taking time out of their day to explain what they think is best for you shows consideration. Soliciting interesting conversation wherever you are and from whomever you're with is a skill unto itself.
