quicker, smaller messes
Inspired by Juni's _072: a complete and utter mess in 30min.
Inspiration versus force
Inspired writing goes a long way. Immerse yourself in lush ecosystems, real or imagined, with many stimuli worth contemplating. Record immediate takes by pen, keyboard, microphone, or otherwise. Even inscrutable drafts give material to sculpt compared to a blank canvas. When faced with walls of texts or pages upon pages, chop the work up into bite-sized pieces. Whether shipping your writing in minutes, hours, longer, or never, each option imparts many lessons if internalized.
You don't have to force yourself to write. If you want to write but don't know where to begin, start a conversation with yourself or try navigating the struggle. Either or both cases can kickstart authoring your own inward self-help book. That said, you can expect and embrace writing breaks and struggles. Distance between shipments can impart much weight and experience into future works. You can find much to say after a quick breath or a well-deserved breather.
When in doubt, minimize
Reduce your standards before you choke on them. Unlock the cage door of "should" or "ought" with intention, where you can survive choosing to follow through or not. Less self-imposed guilt upon struggling, more self-respecting navigation of the struggle.
Realize just how many positive moves you and your body make even in your worst times. In honor of that bustling activity, what's the smallest possible thing you can do? Knock that out of the park, then compound tiny victories to massive effect.
Let planning identify what compels you most. Segue into said action. If your want is too big and scary, scope it down or take a manageable step forward. Move now such that you can ship your work, get feedback, and repeat the process ASAP. Quickly delivering something you find unwanted in retrospect saves you from larger messes down the line. Inhabit such feedback loops before you can prolong waiting further via false or broken promises.
