platform-shipping fit
Inspired by Requiem's Not Totally Against Platforms and offpeaklog's 9 Years of “Learning to Code” and I Still Couldn’t Build a To-Do App.
Create what you wish existed. Start small with end-to-end projects. Build, analyze, fix. Rinse and repeat. Share them once they work. Shipping complete deliverables quicker begets itself. Iterate then branch out over time. Apply such frameworks holistically.
Popular or not, platforms need not be the blocker. The most viable platform is the one you ship the fastest with. Find your personal preference between maintainability and coding, commonality and obscurity, or any other dichotomy. Then, choose platforms which fit you best or improve how you use existing ones. Build the spaces, products, and experiences of your dreams and others' too.
It can be tempting to do it yourself with self-hosted or otherwise complex infrastructure. First, you may want to check if simple alternatives suffice as a primary or backup copy. Can a platform or service hosted offsite get you making moves faster? As an extreme example, all you need to get your words online is a text field and a way to publish your message. What frictionless, streamlined tools do you know of which enable that process and more? What stops you from satisfying your wants? You can find out how to overcome those blockers and execute. I believe that you can deliver like how people believe I and many others can deliver.
People prefer different kinds of offline residences spanning renovated homes, fixer-uppers, apartments, and other form factors. Inhabiting preferred living conditions throughout their lives is a different story. What's fun about your Internet is how much easier you can experiment with and multiply your presence. May you bless your Internet with countless homes on countless platforms and within countless webs.
