lower your standards
Lowering your standards can increase your acceptable creative output and reduce your attachment to outcomes without needing to lower the quality of your work.
I believe that artists create art less the more they believe they can't. What faith should I have in self-proclaimed washed-up artists who haven't shipped art in years? I expect positive self-prophetic beliefs and more frequent output from those describing creativity as their way of life, through aspects like processing their world, expressing themselves, and even connecting with others.
Even describing being creative as performing well doesn't shed the inherent risk involved. Even masterful creatives who perform at the highest level of their craft experience off days, failures, and other negative outcomes. That doesn't stop them from learning from their mistakes then continuing to sharpen their game.
Yet, things aren't always as they seem. Sometimes, what creatives view as initial failures before shipping result in outright successes once publicly introduced or even at a later date. Applied creativity is full of surprises like that. The more you finish, the more you realize what's possible.
If describing creativity as a single artistic medium is insane, try broadening your description. If describing creativity as being able to create well is insane, try lowering your standards. Openness to experience can be a healthy part of a nutritious imagination.
