larger people finders
Inspired by ALifeOfA's Relaxing is NOT a waste of time.
Larger social media platforms hold many more people than this one does. Their capacity could hold more people with not only more shared interests with me, but also stronger reciprocated interest with me.
Those platforms' more global reach and outsized network effects mean that curating within them can reveal valued communities, interests, and people I wouldn't have otherwise found.
Those platforms' native instant communication tools make connection easy. Comments, replies, or threads enabled by default streamline public contributions to existing work. Features like retweets and quote tweets encourage spreading ideas as well as repurposing them. Private messages, individual chats, and group chats offer more nuanced communication methods than email or none at all. What similar features am I missing?
Some larger platforms have been around for years if not decades. Active regulars who continue sharpening interpersonal interactions through them exude favorable attributes like longevity and seriousness. Instead of getting caught up in meta-level concerns, they're busy sculpting object-level masterpieces in the company of fellow survivors. Yet, they aren't as unreachable as you think, particularly if you go where the action is.
All of the above and more makes me think that larger social media platforms can make reaching your chosen few people easier than here. However, instead of only using larger platforms, you can use smaller ones like this one alongside them. That paradigm applies to other digital experiences and meatspace counterparts too. You can maximize how tangible your single physical self is alongside how distributed your many possible virtual selves can be. How much can trusted contacts from one realm convert into trusted contacts in the other?
Ultimately, use as few or as many analog and digital tools for finding your people as you please. Try the largest ones, the smallest ones, or anything in between. That is, if finding your people is even one of your goals in the first place. Sometimes all you want to do is relax in the "middle ground" with the people already around you. That's fine too.
