habits as rewards
A reply to Seej's why is flossing so hard.
TL;DR: Try using consistent habits and/or fun activities as rewards for habits you want to build. Sculpt your environment toward doing what you want. Believing your dreams are possible may make them easier to pursue.
More motivating, dopamine-inducing activities can act as rewards for lesser activities.
Let's take journaling, which you're more motivated to do than flossing. Can you make journaling the reward for flossing? If not, is there a stronger daily (or more frequent) activity you can assign as a reward for flossing?
Even something as fundamental as eating a meal, brushing your teeth, or the first scroll of the day could act as an anchor. Those activities seem self-administering and relevant enough to me. If they aren't, what else could fit the bill?
Speaking of, let's say you believe a five dollar bill or an achievement will make you floss everyday in a month. What stops you from using habit trackers and commitment contract apps with those features?
Admitting you can't get yourself to do something when you can might impede your progress. Adding pressure on yourself seems unwarranted.
You are already in charge of making the habit stick, no matter what anyone - including yourself - says. Not only can you can do what you want to, but you can invite yourself to do that whenever.
