Imperfect

foster mutualistic engagement

James' Against Likes and Subscribers has me thinking that I should lean more toward acquiring "likes, subscribers, notes, replies, comments, and retweets/stacks." That social proof mindset could help "grow, acquire, and accumulate" not only a greater personal presence, but also more fulfilling connections with people over and even beyond the Internet.

You don't need to look at social media and engagement metrics from a parasitic frame if you don't want to. Artists can create something for the purpose of it being seen if not meaningfully engaged with, particularly by their people. Creatives and their receptive witnesses can form mutual partnerships and spiral toward outflowing prosperity.

What authority do I have to gatekeep artists behind whether they care if their work is interfaced? People create for whatever sake they desire. You can too, whether you "create to create" or otherwise. Art can be created regardless of who watches, its payout, or whether it will be understood, talked about, or even read. Save your energy trying to dictate what "true art" is by linking up with the artists vibing on your wavelength.
