Imperfect

chill your standards

High standards and lofty expectations make just doing things hard. Realizing how low the bar is can dispel overthinking. As ALifeOfA wrote in My brain doesn't let me chill:

"If I wanted to go play pick up soccer, I would go join in."

Realizing how only doing the thing does the thing can cut down on not doing it. Doing the thing also serves other purposes: putting unfounded fears to rest or showing how survivable realized fears are in good company.

Rehabilitation toward resuming what you used to enjoy without making it your identity is possible. You can train your brain and utterances toward a response to liking an activity which doesn't lead to inevitable burnout. Introspection can show how you are more multi-dimensional than just "the pick-up soccer player guy" or any other limiting archetype. ALifeOfA seems to understand that through his writing:

Like dude, just do the thing and enjoy it. You don’t have to try to make it your personality. It doesn’t have to be all that. It can just be a sometimes thing.

Now it's just a matter of embodying it. Yes, you can just chill and do chill things sometimes.

However, if you truly can't overcome rotating into a different kind of guy every few weeks or months, have you tried embracing it?
