boycott or embrace
As seen from switch 2 exploits and the unwelcome tour, I'm not fond of numerous recent decisions from one of the video game console giants. Add to that historic beef and you wonder why I even include them in my vocabulary. Even so, I have to admit that they have developed and published some bangers over the decades. Even now, I get to appreciate pleasure obtained from playing them whether on my own, locally with family or friends, or even through online services in the past.
Cris, in May 9, 2025, says he deleted his Nintendo account and his ROMs in response to the updated end user license agreement (EULA). After reading that, I wondered: for someone whose life experience with video games is almost entirely tied up with Nintendo, is suddenly decoupling from ROMs the best choice?
On one hand, I can empathize with relinquishing support for a company perceived as so anti-consumer that flocks of people try to boycott it. On the other hand, you don't have to sacrifice independent workarounds for what that company does best: produce compelling games. How much good can you focus on, enjoy, and celebrate within the bad? A redirection of focus from avoidance to fulfillment as such may assist with weaning off of willpower too. I trust that you can find people happy to introduce you to quality games beyond your walled garden. Perhaps they are waiting for you to assist them in kind.
