ai birthday wishes

A reply to Robert's A friend used AI to wish me Happy Birthday..

Your initial reaction to your friend seems disproportionate.

They remembered your birthday and took time to craft a personal birthday wish. They even used tools to make it easier for them, with the intention of mutual benefits atop kindness and appreciation for you. For the most part, I prefer receiving birthday wishes and other greetings over nothing at all. The more the merrier. Not only do such greetings show that people value me, but I can thank them for affording such value into my life.

I also empathize with how cool incorporating emerging technology into everyday interactions can be. Surely you felt this having used adaptive technology to navigate modern life. Like your own communications through such methods, your friend's message remains genuine whether a cutting-edge AI or primitive tools like spellcheck helped them craft it.

Even if you disagreed with their method, assuming malicious intentions can backfire as it did here. I can think of better methods to proceed. One example starts with first cherishing their sincere message. It's the thought that counts. Then, if you felt the need, you could have explained how to improve their future gestures based on how you feel about AI.

You could have even started a calm and informative dialogue asking if they used AI to help write their wish. People close to you can become so busy that they forget some of what you find important. Sending periodic reminders doesn't hurt. If those don't work, remember that you can only sculpt people in your light to a certain extent. They are as much of a person as you are.

As you say, friendships are imperfect and keep us learning new things every day. Embracing our differences and learning from them is often the toughest, yet most enriching aspect of any relationship.
