100 beautiful things
Inspired by trying not to be a prick's 100 little bullshit things a day.
Your outlook toward work or any other domain could inform the rest of your life. Yes, work can feel underproductive and erosive compared to the ideal. Can more vivid, neighboring slices of life rejuvenate your will? Something keeps us going at the end of the day.
Introspecting on the good, bad, or the ugly isn't immune to failure modes. Although, harmonizing between peaks and valleys can paint a prettier picture of life that could expand your scope of living. Rare are the trails that only ascend or descend. Yet, we walk them all the time.
As you have done with 100 little bad things in a day, I invite you to count 100 little beautiful ones that could offset the former. Rack up numbers that keep you going. See the best that you and your world have to offer through involuntary functions, voluntary actions, and external happenings. How else can you enliven your experience atop moments which "brighten what is clearly darkness descended on imagination"?
On a related note, Prasatt shared some insights in My favourite 5 ideas from the Stoics that I would like to riff on:
You can reframe difficult people as opportunities for learning and improvement. Those complaining to you, tapping at your door, or otherwise interrupting your workflow can inspire cherished lessons within you.
You can let go of your default instincts not only toward perceiving events, but toward executing actions too. Pause and ponder all possible digressions just as you're about to revisit a habit. Afterward, think how different you feel once you execute the habit, if you haven't chosen a different one altogether. Have you enlarged the world around you?
